To-do list apps can be overwhelming. You need a tool that makes sure you don't forget any of your most important tasks—but when you sit down to work in the morning, it's easy to feel discouraged from the start with all of the tasks waiting for completion. You'll be tempted to start over—or to just ignore your to-do list until you have time to worry about it.The designers at Microsoft must have felt the same way, because their new Microsoft To-Do app gives you that fresh start every morning. Instead of a list of everything you haven't completed, Microsoft To-Do's Today view lets you choose what to focus on and accomplish today—with suggested tasks to help you make a smart list of things to work on.Read MoreMicrosoft To-Do is a new app from the team that made Wunderlist. In some ways it feels similar; in other ways, it's a fresh new take on what a to-do list app should be.You'll start out by listing your tasks in projects (hint: type an emoji before your project name to give it an icon in the sidebar). And while it doesn't include Wunderlist's beautiful background photos, Microsoft To-Do includes a handful of header graphics and color schemes to customize each project. Then, add the first task you need to do in your project, press Enter, then immediately enter the next thing you need to do. Already have tasks in another app? Microsoft To-Do can import tasks from Wunderlist and Todoist.Click the task to open its sidebar, where you can add more details in the notes. You can also add a due date, along with a reminder—use the first to remember when tasks must be completed, and the latter to jar your memory a bit earlier when you need to start working on the task. That's enough to list all the things you need to do—but how will you prioritize them? That's where the Today view comes in. It's a blank list that starts over each morning so you can plan your day. Tap the lightbulb icon for suggested tasks—which Microsoft To-Do pulls based on your due dates, reminders, and related tasks to those you've completed recently. Add those or any other tasks, and slowly check off your work from the Today page without having to check each project.Microsoft To-Do is a simpler way to get things done. Instead of a hundred features to manage every possible thing, it gives you the basics to list all your tasks and work through them as you're ready.Microsoft To-Do Resources:Compare Microsoft To-Do to its predecessor, Wunderlist, in our detailed comparison of Wunderlist and Microsoft To-Do.See how Microsoft To-Do compares to Todoist, OmniFocus, Things, Asana, and more in our roundup of the 40 best to-do list apps.Learn more about Microsoft To-Do in the official Microsoft To-Do site.
